More than 20 vehicles were reportedly involved in a crash that closed a section of Interstate 95 southbound in Waltham, Massachusetts, Sunday afternoon, according to State Police.

The serious crash occurred prior to Exit 27 at Winter Street around 2:45 p.m., causing the temporary closure of that section of the highway. State Police say inital reports indicate that injuries are minor in nature.

A blinding snow squall off of the Cambridge Reservoir is believed to be the cause of the chain-reaction crash that included a tractor-trailer.

State Police warned motorists to avoid the area while traffic was initially being diverted off the highway at the Trapelo Road exit. The left lane was later re-opened, followed by the opening of all lanes. MassDOT assisted with traffic signage at the scene.

The Waltham and Lexington fire departments and EMS crews responded to the scene, in addition to dozens of tow trucks. The scene was cleared by 6 p.m.

A second multi-car crash was reported a short time later on Route 128 southbound in Peabody near the North Shore Mall. Massachusetts State Police say they responded to the scene.

Earlier in the day, Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker had warned citizens to stay off the roads if possible.

Car Crashes Into Apartment Complex, Building Evacuated

A car swerved off the road and into a Montebello apartment complex on Sunday, leaving the driver and passenger with minor injuries. Although no other injuries were reported, the building's residents remain under evacuation while the structure's safety is assessed, fire officials said.

The 21-year-old driver, Chris Gonzalez, and his friend were driving down the 800 block of North Wilcox Avenue when another driver cut him off, he said.

"I swerved and tried getting back into my lane and all hell broke loose," Gonzalez said.

The 21-year-old lost control of his Honda Accord, flew across the street and landed into the side of the apartment building near the carport around 4 p.m. His car crashed into a tree and struck another car inside the carport.

Gonzalez said he and his passenger were OK, despite some cuts and bruises from the collision.

"We're lucky. We're very lucky," Gonzalez said. “Thank the Lord, man. I saw my life go past me, no lie. I really did.”

His car, however, was totaled.

The 12-unit apartment building was evacuated after the crash so that an engineer could assess the building’s safety.

“Right now it’s currently fine. You throw a 7.0 earthquake on top of the damage that’s done, we don’t know how it will react,” Montebello Fire Battalion Chief Dan France said.

"Saturday Night Live" celebrates four decades of laughs with a special presentation Sunday at 8 p.m. on NBC. An all-star cast of past and present performers and some of the biggest names in music will gather together to fete the iconic sketch series.

Please refresh this page for live updates during the presentation:

11:22 Paul Simon and the "SNL" band

11:14 pm: "It's Party Time!" "Excellent!"

Wayne (Mike Meyers) and Garth (Dana Carvey) were back on the couch to reveal the Top 10 things about "SNL":

10. It's a "live" show

9. Satire

8. "Saturday Night Dead"

7. Cast Catchphrases

6. Musical guests

5. Kanye Sit Down "Don't storm the stage," Garth told a jumpy West in the audience.

4. Opening credits

3. Aftershow orgies/ or Wigs

2. Lorne Michaels "What can be said about Lorne Michaels that he has not already said about himself," quipped Wayne.

1. The Crew

11:05 pm: In memoriam

Bill Murray introduced the segment honoring those of the "SNL" family who have passed away. There was John Belushi, Jan Hooks, announcer Don Pardo, Tom Davis, Andy Kaufman, Danitra Vance, Charles Rocket, band member Tom "T-Bone: Wolk, Phil Hartman, Chris Farley, Gilda Radnor, and those writers, producers, wardrobe organizers, and talent coordinators who helped make "SNL" the ground-breaking must-see TV it has become.

Oh, and the ongoing joke about a not-quite-yet deceased audience member Jon Lovitz.

10:50 pm Here's to the films

Before they were called digital shorts they were simply "SNL" films, prerecorded skits played between the live sketches. Remember Albert Brooks performing open heart surgery? "White Like Me" with Eddie Murphy? Everybody knows "D--- In a Box" with Justin Timberlake and Andy Samberg. And don't forget MacGruber, all those ad parodies and "The Midnight Coterie of Sinister Intruders."

Zach Galifinakis (in a wig borrowed from Sia's performance with Kanye West) introduced a new digital short featuring Adam Sandler and Samberg singing "That's When You Break," an '80s-style power ballad complete with rocker wigs and retro clips of players breaking character and laughing. Special call outs went to Rachel Dratch and Jimmy Fallon.

10:36 pm "30 Rock" reunion

Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin feted former "SNL" player and "30 Rock" co-star Tracey Morgan who, Fey said, wanted to attend the celebration Sunday but was still not well enough following injuries sustained in a traffic accident last summer. A clip of "Brian Fellow's Safari Planet" was played to showcase Morgan's contribution.

10:24 pm: Seinfeld takes questions

"People who hosted again and again have nothing going on," Jerry Seinfeld joked before taking questions from audience members who were all either past "SNL" hosts, players or writers.

Michael Douglas couldn't understand why was only asked to host once when Charles Barkley did it three times. John Goodman was quick to point out he hosted 13 times (or "the Goodman dozen") ahead of a parade of bold-faced names including James Franco, Larry David ("Was I really a writer on 'Saturday Night Live'?") , Ellen Cleghorne ("How many black women were on the 'Seinfeld' show?"), upcoming host and "Fifty Shades of Grey" star Dakota Johnson, Tim Meadows, Bob Odenkirk and Sarah Palin (who Seinfeld identified as "Tina").

10:15 pm "50 Ways" with Miley Cyrus

Former host and musical guest Cyrus took the stage with the band to perform Paul Simon's "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover," a song Simon performed on "SNL" in November 1976.

10:07 pm Peyton Manning and Derek Jeter introduce the sports skits

The worlds of NFL and MLB combined to introduce a montage of clips featuring sports stars sending themselves up, including Chris Evert, Hulk Hogan, John McEnroe, Michael Phelps, Michael Jordan, Kerryi Strug, George Foreman, Mike Tyson, Charles Barkley, Shaquille O'Neal, LeBron James, John Cena, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Dennis Rodman, Evander Holyfield, Mister T, Mike Ditka, Joe Montana and many, many more.

9:58 Chris Rock introduces Eddie Murphy

"Every year somebody tries to tell us that someone is the next Eddie Murphy," said Rock, before adding, "There is is no next Eddie Murphy."

Murphy took the stage to thundering applause before describing Sunday's show as "magical." Murphy last hosted "SNL" in 1984 and was a player from 1980 to 1984. Then, a fumbled cross to the ad break. Hey, it's live television!

9:40 pm: Martin Short, Maya Rudolph as Beyonce, a wind machine and the music skits

After battling verses (and that wind machine) the pair led us through a musical showcase of past glories:  Dana Carvey delivered "Choppin' Broccoli," Adam Sandler returned as Opera Man ("Lorne has gathered us together and no ones getting paid-oh!"), there was Kenan Thompson's DeAndre Cole with "What's Up With That?", Steve Martin as King Tut, and Bill Murray belted out the theme song from "Jaws" ahead of a Blues Brothers reunion featuring Dan Aykroyd and Jim Belushi (brother of the late "SNL" original player John Belushi) and slamming rendition of "Everybody Needs Somebody."

9:20 pm Cross-Generational "Weekend Update"

Amy Poehler, Tina Fey and Jane Curtain returned to the "Weekend Anchor" desk that helped catapult all three to national fame. 23 players have sat behind the desk across the decades.

"The times have changed since I did this," Curtain explained. "I used to be the only pretty blonde woman reading fake news. Now there is a whole network." Then the Fox logo appeared behind her.

Hollywood stars paraded through embodying their favorite characters. First up Emma Stone donned the horizontal wig of Roseanne Rosannadanna (originally played by the late Gilda Radnor), then Edward Norton gasped his way through a Stefon impersonation ("New York's hottest club is called YANK!") before being joined by Bill Hader, the character's creator, and Seth Meyers, Stefon's "SNL" husband.

Lastly, Melissa McCarthy burst in as Matt Foley (originally played by the late Chris Farley), complete with pants-adjusting ticks, before destroying the desk.

And then Fey was eaten by the Land Shark.

9:07 pm: The Californians!!!!! And the kiss of the night!!!

"SNL" returns to the West Coast – accents and driving directions included. Props to Bradley Cooper as the pool boy, Kerry Washington as the doctor delivering results of the paternity test and Taylor Swift as the ingenue actress, Betty White as the "not dead!" mother turned Catalina pier-performer. And that kiss between Cooper and White!

9:00 pm: 40 years of political sketches

Jack Nicholson takes the stage to introduce four decades of political skits, a video montage highlighting impersonations including Carter, Bush (H. and W.), Clinton (Bill and Hillary), Gore, Obama, Romney, Gingrich, Palin and Biden.

Adding perspective to the Nicholson noted that "SNL" began not long after the last U.S. helicopter flew out of Vietnam.

8:52 pm: McCartney back as musical guest

Paul McCartney delivers the first full staged musical performance of the evening: "Baby I'm Amazed."

8:45 pm: "SNL" = New York City

Former host Robert De Niro describes what the series has meant to NYC, and vice versa. "'SNL' and NYC – that’s the way I like my Saturday nights, that’s the way I like my city," De Niro said. "Anybody got a problem with that?"

As past sketches showcasing the Big Apple rolled, Alica Keys took to the grand piano to perform a soulful rendition of "Empire State of Mind."

8:30 "Jeopardy!" returns

Will Ferrell donned mustache and stern gaze to embody Alex Trebek and host "Jeopardy!," with a star-studded impersonated cast featuring Tony Bennett (Alec Baldwin), Justin Timberlake (Kate McKinnon), word-mangling Sean Connery (Darryl Hammon), Burt Reynolds (Norm MacDonald), Christoph Waltz (Taran Killem), Matthew McConaughey (Jim Carrey, complete with pre-recorded voice-over), and a cocktail-making Bill Cosby (Kenan Thompson).

Trebek: "The answer is 'This is the color of snow."

Connery: "What is yellow."

8:24 pm Dan Aykroyd delivers first new sketch by revisiting an old one

Revisiting a April 1976 skit, Dan Aykroyd delivered the first new sketch of the night playing a TV ad sales man showcasing the Bass-O-Matic – basically a blender you put fish in in order to make "mmm ... delicious bass milkshakes." Lucky for viewers, the Bass-O-Matic stalled when stuffed with fresh fish.

8:08 pm: Steve Martin delivers opening monologue

"How do you cover all the people who have been on 'SNL' over the years?" 15-time host Steve Martin asked during his opening monologue. "Leave 'em out," Martin said.

Other multiple hosts Tom Hanks, Alec Baldwin, Melissa McCarthy, Chris Rock, Peyton Manning, Miley Cyrus and Billy Crystal took the stage with Martin, along with former musical guests and hosts Paul McCartney and Paul Simon. "SNL" executive producer Lorne Michaels said Simon had flown 19 hours just to be in attendance Sunday night.

Martin said to Rock: "I forgot you were once a cast member." Rock: "So did the writers!"

8:00 pm: Fallon, Timberlake kick-off the big show

Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake opened the prcoeedings with a rap and musical number referencing some of the most well-loved sketches and characters from the last 40 years, including the Wild and Crazy Guys, Ambiguously Gay Due, the Californians, the Blues Brothers and more cowbell! Rachel Dratch's Debbie Downer and Molly Shannon's Mary Katherine Gallagher joined in.

7:50 pm: Would Betty White host again?

The "Mary Tyler Moore Show" and "Golden Girls" star hosted in 2010. When asked if she would step up again White replied, "Well, I got an Emmy for it. Sure!"

7:41 pm: Martin Short most asked "SNL" question

Cast member Martin Short (1984-1985) was asked what he gets asked most often about his time on the show. "Someone asked me do you still do the classic characters from 'SNL' in the '80s," Short told Lauer. Then added with a laugh, "Sadly, yes!"

7:26 pm: Is Amy Poehler worried about performing tonight?

Alum Amy Poehler said she wasn't too fazed by the prospect of performing in front of the comedy royalty assembled Sunday night. "They understand bombing," Poehler said.

7:15 pm: Jim Belushi talks brother Jim's "SNL" legacy

"John was on the cover of Rolling Stone this year," Jim Belushi said of his brother Jim, who was a founding member of the "SNL" troop in 1975. Belushi walked the red carpet with alum Dan Aykroyd, who famously brought to life the Blues Brothers - both on the series and on the big screen - alongside John, who passed away in 1982. "He’s still the #1 'Saturday Night Live' man," Belushi continued. "He created the legacy for me to follow. We keep Jake and the blues alive. We’ll bring the spirit tonight on the stage."

7:05 pm: Eddie Murphy returns after 30 years

In his four years on "SNL," Eddie Murphy brought us Mr. Robinson, Buckwheat, Gumby and Velvet Jones. But since hosting in December 1984, he hasn’t been back. Until tonight.

"It’s a lot like going back to your old high school, and everything seems really tiny,” Murphy said during the Red Carpet pre-show. "I haven’t been back here in 32 years." Murphy talked what makes performing live special. "There’s nothing like that connection, that feeling, of a live audience,” Murphy said. "Once you’ve done that, you never, ever stop liking it."

7:02 pm: Sarah Palin calls "SNL" appearance "most fun" moment of her 2008 campaign

Former Vice President hopeful Sarah Palin walked the red carpet and stopped to chat with Matt Lauer, alongside 16-time "SNL" host Alec Baldwin. When asked about her famous appearance on "SNL" in 2008 during the Presidential campaign (in which she was impressively impersonated by Tina Fey), Palin said it was the "most fun moment" of the campaign for her.

Baldwin, who has hosted the show more than any other performer, was asked why he keeps returning to Studio 8H in Rockefeller Center. "As Seinfeld said to me, you’re only the record holder because you have so much time on your hands," Baldwin quipped in reply.

7:00 pm: Red Carpet Kick-Off and Bill Murray is in the House

And the stars start arriving. Former "SNL" cast member Bill Murray (1977-1980) rushed through without stopping to pose for photographers. Also in the house early: Jimmy Fallon, Justin Timberlake, Seth Meyers, Billy Crystal, Bobby Moynihan, Rachel Dratch, James Franco and Amy Poehler.

Police are searching for a 16-year-old boy from China who went missing in Claremont on Friday.

Jin Wuwei walked away from the Claremont Lodge, a motel in Claremont, and hasn't been seen since, according to a news release from the Claremont Police Department. He left the motel around 12:42 p.m. and "headed to an unknown destination."

He was wearing a dark-colored hoodie and sweatpants with a white line on the outer seam. Surveillance footage from the motel shows Wuwei carrying a backpack. He did not have a lot of money on him, officials said.

Wuwei's mother told police that he speaks fluent English and doesn't have any friends or family in the Claremont area. He arrived in California from Beijing on Feb. 11. The mother and son were visiting potential colleges in the nearby area.

The teen is described as 6 feet tall and 140 pounds. Wuwei has black hair and brown eyes. He may be wearing black-rimmed eyeglasses, police said.

Claremont Police Lt. Jason Walters said that there are no signs of foul play, but investigators are "not ruling anything out at this point."

Walters said the teen has not gone missing before.

A boy with skin cancer is flying to Ohio for much-needed treatment, all thanks to generous donors.

Reef Carneson, 6, stepped onto a private plane Sunday morning to fly to a specialist in Cincinnati. Already a leukemia survivor, Baby Reef's cancer treatment, for his scalp and face, have left his immune system too compromised to take a commercial flight, where germs would put him at risk for infection.

After a seeing a report on NBC4 about the Carneson's family's struggle to stay in America -- they're South African natives here so Reef could be treated -- the family received several offers for help. The outpouring of love and support has been uplifting for the family.

"So many angels have come out since they saw the news," Lydia Carneson said. "We've been so blessed."

The Carneson's ultimately accepted an offer from the Sky Hope Network to fly them to Cincinnati and back. The Network learned of Baby Reef's plight from his Facebook page.

Reef was excited to be able to see the specialist, but he was looking forward to something else, too -- he's never seen snow before.

NBC4 reporter Angie Crouch contributed to this report.

An earlier version of this report incorrectly stated from whom Sky Hope Network learned about Reef.

There's probably no other dance that conveys the message of romance and passion better than the tango.

To help spread the love, a group of 40 local dancers took the Argentine tango to a SoCal airport terminal on Sunday.

"Tango is symbolic of Valentine's, of relationships, of love, of passion, of everything that is joy in your life," said dance instructor and event organizer Ilona Glinarsky.  "We wanted to bring a little bit of joy and maybe a little love to a place that seems to be a little dry and a little stressful at times."

Although it was the day after Valentine’s, the group of dancers from Living Tango dance studio in El Segundo put on quite a show in the Tom Bradley International Terminal at Los Angeles International Airport.

Men and women dressed in red and black performed the highly improvisational dance.

The first few bars of the song were choreographed, but the rest of the performance was completely improvised, Glinarsky told NBC4.

In addition to a free show, the Living Tango dancers treated travelers to Valentine’s candy.

Turn Old Cellphone Into Home Surveillance Camera

When Sean Cohen isn't answering phones at work, he's buying them from customers.

Cohen purchases used 15 to 20 cellphones and tablets every day, generally for pennies on the dollar, unless they're almost new.

But what some sellers may not know is that their device can be used as a home surveillance camera.

Jeff Zisner of AEGIS Security and Investigations says old cellphones and tablets with cameras can be re-used as security cameras for free.

"You set the camera up using Wi-Fi so you don't need to have a cellphone activated on an account, you don't need a monthly fee," he said.

All you need is to download an app. During a demonstration, we chose the Alfred app for Android - it's free.

Zisner set up a tablet in the NBC4 I-Team office and a phone in areas around the newsroom.

"The app will alert you that there is motion that's in your house that's not authorized," he said.

You can monitor it live on your cellphone from work or elsewhere.

One of the benefits about using your old phone is that it doesn't just give you video, it gives you audio, so as you see a burglar in your house you can tell them to get out.

"And then the next call you make is to law enforcement so they can respond," Zisner said.

If police arrive too late, you still have a recording of exactly who burglarized your home and peace of mind - all for free.

You can turn your phone into a mobile home security camera with the following apps:

For iPhone:

  • Pocket Spy Cam
  • Presence

For Android:

  • Alfred
  • Motion Detector
  • WardenCam

Police searched Monday for the shooter responsible for leaving five people wounded in a drive-by in Long Beach on Sunday night.

The shooting was reported about 9:40 p.m. in the 200 block of West 14th Street, officials with the Long Beach Police Department said.

Neighbors said a car sprayed gunfire at a group standing outside an apartment building. One neighbor said he recalled hearing at least 20 shots.

Five people were taken to hospitals in Long Beach, police said. Four were released Monday and a fifth remained in serious condition.

"It was unexpected," said Dario De La Torria, one of the shooting victims, who stood in crutches on the sidewalk Monday afternoon. "We were just chilling. We couldn't really do nothing, you know?

"They rolled up on us so fast that we didn't really have that much time to really get away."

Police said the shooting appeared to be gang related, but De La Torria denied any gang involvement.

"They see a group of people, they think (gangs) automatically," he said. "It is what it is. You know, look at where we live."

Residents in the area said that shootings are not unusual in the area, but that the sheer scope of the crime that had people on edge.

"That's crazy. I ain't never heard of something like that. So many shots," said Travoni Lewis, who has lived in the neighborhood for seven years. He said he's always careful because some days he thinks the neighborhood is safe some days, but can quickly change.

"It's like a light switch. One day it's bad, some days it's good," Lewis said.

The Long Beach Police Department is asking for help with the investigation.

"We do ask that anyone with information to come foward and always keep their eyes out and if anything seems suspicious in their neighborhood to call police ahead of time and officers can check it out," said spokeswoman Marlene Arrona.

Long Beach police said they will be stepping up patrols in the area. They are also hoping to get more information from security cameras in the area.

Woman Becomes Girl Scout After Discrimination

One woman received a special honor Friday after she was denied the chance to join the troop in the 1960s.

"This was total surprise to become now an inductee of the Girl Scouts at 62 years of age,” said San Diego resident Daphyne Watson.

Watson said she was denied the chance to join the organization in elementary school in New York because she was black.

Her granddaughter’s troop, Girl Scout Troop 4044, held an Investiture ceremony to make Watson an inductee girl scout. The ceremony invited her into the troop.

In 1960, Watson was in second grade in Smithtown, Long Island, New York when her teacher announced that each girl wanting to join the Brownies troop needed to stay after school.

When it was time for Watson’s meeting, her teacher told her black girls couldn’t join the girl scouts. At the time, Girl Scouts had a non-discrimination policy, but not all troops followed the policy.

Watson admitted she was skeptical of the Girl Scouts at first, but as she became an adult, she realized what they were doing for the community and fully supported the organization.

A Southern California family received a special delivery in their driveway on Sunday — but it wasn't a package from the mail carrier. It was their new bundle of joy, a baby boy named Bronson.

Hugo Chavez, his wife Vanessa and their two children left for the hospital around 1:30 a.m. after she began experiencing contractions.

Although the hospital is only 10 miles away from the family's Upland home, expecting mother said she wasn't going to make it to the hospital. The baby was coming.

Hugo called 911, turned the car around and headed back home. When the family pulled into the driveway, his wife's water broke. The baby's head was showing and next thing Chavez knew, he had delivered the baby.

During the birth, Chavez was on the phone with a 911 dispatcher, but said the delivery happened quickly. Paramedics soon arrived and let the proud dad cut the baby's umbilical cord.

The newborn and his mother are doing well, Chavez said.

A 16-year-old boy from China was found safe on Monday, 36 hours after he disappeared and 40 miles away from a motel he stayed at while on a college campus tour with his mother, police said.

Someone spotted Jin Wuwei on Monday in West Hollywood and alerted police.

Wuwei went missing before 1 p.m. Friday after having walked away from the Claremont Lodge, 40 miles away from where he was found Monday afternoon.

Through a translator, his father said he wanted to get away, "show his personality" and "do his own thing."

"I'm so excited," said his father, Jin Xi Jun, through a translator. "I'm so happy."

He was sitting on a bus bench on Sunset Boulevard when someone noticed him from a poster police distributed seeking the 6-foot-tall teenager.

Detectives were trying to piece together where the teen had been the time he was missing. Police don't believe there was any foul play.

"Happy to see he's safe," said Lt. Jason Walters, of the Claremont Police Department. "Thank you to the LA Sheriff's Department for finding him. And, again, thank you to the local citizen who called the department when they recognized him."

He was last seen on security cameras walking away from a motel. He had a backpack with a laptop several hundred dollars, a credit card and cellphone. Those items were missing.

One audience member got a lot more than he expected at a Valentine's Day performance of Avenue Q in Coronado.

At the 8 p.m. performance of the show at the Coronado Playhouse, David Miller, a Vista resident, popped the question to his longtime boyfriend Dave Abad.

The two met through an online dating site more than two years ago. For Valentine's Day weekend, Abad flew home to San Diego to attend the performance of his favorite musical with his boyfriend.

During the show's curtain call, the couple was invited on stage under the rouse that they had won something. Miller was helped by the show's puppets as he got down on one knee and asked his boyfriend to marry him. His boyfriend said yes.

Miller works as a biotech project manager in Vista. Abad, however, works as an attorney in the San Francisco Bay area. The couple is in a long distance relationship.

Black Ice Was DWI Cover-Up: Cops

$

0

Two men were arrested on DWI charges after police say one of them wrecked a relative's car on a New Jersey road and then enlisted the other to help him dump water on the roadway on a frigid cold night to make it appear that  black ice caused the crash.

Brian J. Byers and Alexander Zambenedetti, both 20, were arrested after Byers allegedly crashed a 2001 BMW early Saturday at Woodport and Sawmill roads in Sparta and then came back with Zambenedetti so he could dump water on the intersection to make it appear that black ice contributed to the crash.

Police say that Byers hit a guardrail with the car, which was registered to a family member, when he ran the stop sign early Saturday. He allegedly drove off after the wreck, taking the damaged car to his house about a mile away.

Then, police say, Zambenedetti drove Byers back to the scene in a 2005 BMW. Police say they brought two five-gallon buckets full of water and allegedly poured them onto the intersection to create a black ice slick on the road. It is unclear if the duo made multiple trips to freeze over the road.

The pair was cuffed after an officer on patrol saw Zambenedetti standing outside on the 1-degree night without a shirt on. Byers was sitting in the passenger’s seat, and the officer found the two buckets in clear view.

By the time the officer arrived, the water on the roadway had frozen, making the intersection too dangerous to drive on. A snow plow had to come to the scene and drop about a half a ton of salt on the roadway to make it safe for travel.

Byers was arrested on several charges including DWI, leaving the scene of an accident and disorderly conduct for creating a dangerous condition by purposely icing an intersection.

Zambenedetti was also arrested on DWI charges after he allegedly failed a field sobriety test at the intersection. Police say he denied driving the car to the scene even though he had sat in the driver’s seat at one point.

Both men were released Saturday morning and are set to appear in court later this week.

The FBI has started a civil rights investigation after a non-profit Muslim school in Rhode Island was vandalized over the weekend.

The incident happened at the Islamic School of Rhode Island in West Warwick.

Doors and windows throughout the school were covered with obscene expletives such as "Die Pig" and "F--- Allah Now This Is A Hate Crime.”

The school begins its February break Monday, but the school could see investigative teams combing the building for evidence in the coming days.

The FBI's Boston Division told NBC in a statement that they have started a civil rights investigation into the incident.

"The FBI takes these matters very seriously and is asking anyone with information about the crime to come forward and report it," the FBI statement read. "Anyone with information should contact the FBI at 1-800-CALLFBI or submit a tip at http://tips.fbi.gov/."

The Council on American Islamic Relations had hoped authorities would investigate the vandalism as a hate crime.

The council, the nation's largest Muslim activist organization, says the attacks on American Muslims, including the murders of three Muslims students at the University of North Carolina, must also be addressed by our nation's leaders.
