The driver of a silver truck surrendered in a Hollywood strip mall parking lot after being pursued by police on freeways and surface streets through the San Fernando Valley toward downtown Los Angeles.

The pursuit began at 6:55 p.m. Wednesday near Riverside Drive and East Cahuenga Boulevard in Toluca Lake, authorities said.

The driver of a silver truck took the 134 and 5 freeways, exiting onto surface streets and traveling into the Echo Park area then toward Hollywood.

The truck appeared to have yellow New Mexico plates.

The vehicle was hit by a spike strip placed by Los Angeles police, but continued to travel into the Fairfax area toward Hollywood.

The vehicle had multiple close calls with other cars and pedestrians.

The pursuit was at fairly slow speeds, but the truck was repeatedly running lights and crossing into oncoming lanes.

The truck pulled into a strip mall near Sunset Boulevard and Fuller Avenue (map) and the driver held hands up and lay down, spread eagle, on the ground, at about 7:40 p.m. Officers swarmed the scene.
