Man Killed in OC Explosion Wrote of Conspiracy Theories

A Costa Mesa man who died in an explosion at his home over the weekend had authored a 17,000-word online manifesto that called on his fellow citizens to help him "expose" a bizarre list of conspiracy theories.

Kevin Harris, 52, wrote that government agents are assassinating dissenters using a device called "the pricker;" the CIA created "Star Trek" for complicated and nefarious purposes; and Jesus of Nazareth is a passenger on a fake, government-built alien space craft with several identical twins "in reserve" to give the illusion of resurrection if he dies.

Harris died about 8 p.m. Sunday in an explosion in front of his home, Costa Mesa police Lt. Paul Dondero said.

Police believed Harris was wearing two pipe bombs, though it's unclear whether he committed suicide or accidentally killed himself. Emergency crews evacuated the neighborhood overnight as they searched his home and found another explosive device, which they safely detonated.

Harris' document was dated 2005 and was the "ninth revised edition." It was detailed and technically descriptive, suggesting that schizophrenia is the result of implants secretly placed in the mouth or ear.

"Even the lay public knows that hearing voices in your head is a symptom of schizophrenia," he wrote. "It is so well publicized because it is a lie. The voices may tell the victim that there is a microchip in their brain, or other nonsense, but the voices are real. ... Suitable victims can be trained to kill people like Darrell Abbot, Princess Dianna, John Lennon, or destroy the World Trade Center. This is how commands are sent to animals."

He gives his address - 3152 Bermuda Drive, Costa Mesa - and warns readers against visiting.

"You can tell it's me because I'm the only one who can get into my house," he wrote. "I think it may be dangerous for you to come to my house alone. My only reader to come alone lives nearby, and so, would have been hard to identify as a visitor."
