Two people were killed early Thursday in a multiple-vehicle crash on the southbound 605 Freeway in Whittier.
Four collisions were reported in the area after the initial crash, which involved a car that struck the center divider at about 2:30 a.m. Another driver crashed into the disabled vehicle.
On Thursday afternoon the Los Angeles County Coroner's office identified the deceased victims as two Hispanic men, ages 67 and 60. They were traveling in separate vehicles, said California Highway Patrol Sgt. Joe Zizi.
Two more vehicles were involved in crashes within minutes of the first two collisions.
All southbound lanes were closed at Beverly Boulevard for the crash investigation. Caltrans crews began reopening lanes at about 5:30 a.m., when traffic was backed up for about three miles in the Whittier area.
