Police on Saturday were investigating a shooting in Long Beach that left two dead and two others wounded at a party, police said.

Killed were Sophon Kao, 26, and Jerry Chim, 24, both of Long Beach. Two women also suffered gunshot wounds to their torsos. They were hospitalized in serious but stable condition, according to a statement from the Long Beach Police Department.

The shooting happened about 10 p.m. Friday in the 6500 block of North Rose Avenue in Long Beach, said Long Beach Police Sgt. David Marander.

The victims were a small group of friends celebrating a birthday. A suspect approached the group on foot and shot at the victims, who were sitting in an alcove beside the home, police said.

Police responded to numerous calls about the incident but were trying to determine what led to the shootings.

Anyone with information about the shooting can call detectives Mark McGuire and Greg Krabbe at 562-570-7244.
