A licensed eye doctor is expected in court on April 12 to face charges in connection with the discovery of a small camera hidden in his Tarzana office, Los Angeles City Attorney Carmen Trutanich said.
Foad Shirazian, 30, of Calabasas, faces misdemeanor -- or less serious offenses -- of violating the privacy of others by using a hidden recording device, Trutanich said. If convicted, Shirazian faces up to six months in jail.
He was with a patient on Saturday and not immediately available for comment, said a receptionist who answered the phone at his office.
A person’s privacy, especially in the most personal and intimate situations, must be respected and protected,” Trutanich said in a press release. Individuals who violate that privacy will be prosecuted and held accountable under the law.”
A female employee reported Shirazian to police after she found the camera hidden behind a poster in a wall of an office restroom in February, the city attorney said.
Shirazian, received his license to practice optometry in California in August 2001, has not had any reportable disciplinary history, according to the state’s Department of Consumer Affairs Board of Optometry website.
