A woman's body was found at a popular spot beneath a bridge in Newport Beach on Monday morning, and detectives were scouring the area for evidence that could shed some light on the circumstances of her death.
The woman, whose identity was not released, was spotted by a passer-by at about 8:45 a.m. beneath the Newport Bay Bridge. Her body was face-down on the ground beneath the bridge.
Orange County Sheriff's Department investigators, including divers, were searching the scene in and out of the water.
Her death was considered suspicious. It wasn't clear how - or where - she died before her body ended up beneath the bridge, officials said.
