A tour bus that departed Sunday night from Los Angeles with 19 people onboard crashed near Temecula on its way to a casino.

The crash occurred on Pala Temecula Road, south of Temecula. The bus was headed to Pauma Casino, about 50 miles north of San Diego.

The driver told California Highway Patrol officers there was a brake problem before the bus crashed into a ditch. The bus hit a metal guardrail, trees and boulder before coming to a stop.

Ten of the 18 passengers were hospitalized. Details regarding the injuries were not immediately available, but CHP officers described the most serious injury as a cut to the head.

"We don’t really know any of the history of the company right now,” Officer Jim Bettencourt said. “Everything is still pretty fresh.

“We’re going to do a full mechanical investigation on it to determine if there was anything else wrong with the bus, if it was mechanical or driver error."

The crash comes more than one week after a tour bus bound for San Manuel Indian Bingo and Casino crashed on the 210 Freeway near the 605 Freeway, about 20 miles east of Los Angeles in Irwindale.
