A 47-year-old transient will stand trial in the slaying of a woman whose body was found in San Bernardino in March.

A San Bernardino Superior Court judge found Jamie Farron Putman competent to stand trial in the death of a woman whose body was found in the 1700 block of South E Street, the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin reported.

Police found the body March 4. The woman had suffered from blunt force trauma, officials said. The Riverside Press Enterprise reported that she was homeless.

The body was found in the Santa Ana River. Police found the suspect hiding under a tree nearby.

Police said the suspect admitted his involvement in her death and he was booked into the San Bernardino County Jail.

Police said the suspect and the victim appeared to have known each other and that a dispute may have led to the attack.
