The man suspected of driving a car from which a woman jumped or was pushed to her death on a Southern California freeway was jailed in connection with the incident, police said.

One key factor in deciding to arrest Ricardo "Rick" Jimenez was the amount of blood present on the passenger side of Maria Josefina "Josie" Jimenez's red car, found abandoned in the northeast San Fernando Valley, police said in a tweet.

Following a public announcement that he was wanted for questioning, police said Ricardo Jimenez, 26, turned himself in to the Glendale Police Department on Saturday.

Maria Jimenez, 22, was killed Thursday morning on the Foothill (210) Freeway in Sylmar. Jimenez came out of the passenger door of the red Toyota and was killed by oncoming traffic.

The two were not related, but were allegedly having an affair, police said.

Police said they had an argument at a tattoo parlor before Maria Jimenez's death, with Ricardo Jimenez "causing a disturbance and berating Josie in front of others,'' LAPD Lt. Paul Vernon said.

"We know Rick was driving Josie's red Toyota Corolla when the two left the parlor," Vernon said.

Josie's estranged husband reported her missing, and police said he is not believed to have had any involvement in her death.

Authorities urged anyone with information to contact Detective Gretchen Shultz of the LAPD's Mission Division Homicide Unit at 818-838-9951.
