Police on Tuesday morning were searching for two gunmen after they tied up a man in his Playa Del Rey home and stole his car and thousands of dollars, police said.

The resident was using his computer inside his beachfront home in the 7500 block of Vista Del Mar just before midnight when he noticed two people were inside with him, said Sgt. Dennis Beacham of the Los Angeles Police Department.

The pair, armed with guns, demanded the man get on the ground. When he complied, they tied him up and demanded he give them money and various items from the home, Beacham said.

The robbers made away with the man’s white Mercedes SUV, but police recovered the car a few miles away near Jefferson and Lincoln boulevards about 40 minutes after the robbery, said LAPD Sgt. S. Brady.

The pair did, however, make away with several thousand dollars and the man's rare coin collection, Brady said.

Police described the robbers as two black males, both about 6 feet tall, wearing dark clothes and armed with unspecified handguns.

Additional details were not immediately available.
