Two transients were found dead Thursday morning outside of a Glendora car wash often frequented by homeless people, police said.
A pedestrian flagged down an officer on patrol after hearing arguing coming from the car wash about 2 a.m., Gledora Police Capt. Tim Staab said.
The owner of Glendora Hand Car Wash at the corner of Route 66 and South Vermont Avenue was tipped off when the shop’s security alarm was tripped by police in an effort to alert him.
The men were pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Officials do not know if the men stabbed each other or if a third party was involved, and no additional evidence turned up in a search.
This is the first homicide in Glendora since 2009, Staab said.
Transients sleep there on a regular basis after closing time, the owner said. The business is about 26 miles east of Los Angeles.
The Los Angeles Sheriff's Department will take over the investigation into the deaths.
Route 66 was closed between South Vermont and South Glendora avenues.
