Terry Smith Jr., the 11-year-old boy whose body was found last month near his Menifee home after a massive search, will be honored Friday night during a minor league baseball game in Lake Elsinore.

The Lake Elsinore Storm will honor Terry (pictured below) during a home game at 7:05 p.m. against the Bakersfield Blaze. The team gave away tickets to search volunteers and Menifee residents.

“First I would like to thank everyone who volunteered their time and passion in trying to help a young, local boy,” wrote Dave Oster, the team’s president on the Facebook page, Remembering Terry Smith. “The whole community was greatly affected by this tragedy, and as a team we wanted to see what we could do to help and offer support.”

Terry was reported missing July 7, prompting a massive search by authorities and hundreds of volunteers in Menifee, a suburb about 80 miles southeast of Los Angeles. Three days later, authorities discovered Terry’s partially exposed body behind his mother's home.

His 16-year-old half brother, Skylor Atilano, was charged with murder in connection with the death. Atilano is expected in court in September. Prosecutors want to try him as an adult.
