Commuters will have to endure a four-month closure of a vital 405 Freeway off-ramp while crews continue work on the Sepulveda Pass Improvement project.

Starting Aug. 3, the Sunset Boulevard off-ramp on the northbound 405 Freeway will be closed for 120 days, according to a Metro news release issued Wednesday.

During the closure, crews will work to lengthen and widen the off-ramp by 60 percent, Metro officials said.

Approximately 1,200 drivers use the off-ramp on a daily basis during its peak times, said Dave Sotero, spokesman for Metro.

The new setup will feature two right-turn lanes and one left-turn lane onto Sunset Boulevard.

Drivers can take these detours to bypass the construction:

Westbound Sunset

  • Daytime: Northbound I-405 off-ramp to westbound Wilshire Boulevard, to northbound Sepulveda Boulevard, to eastbound Sepulveda Way, to westbound Sunset Boulevard
  • Alternate: Moraga Drive off-ramp, to southbound Sepulveda Boulevard, right on Church Lane to Sunset Boulevard
  • Nighttime: Northbound I-405 off-ramp to westbound Wilshire Boulevard, right on northbound San Vicente Boulevard, right onto north Barrington Avenue, left onto westbound Sunset Boulevard

Eastbound Sunset

  • Northbound I-405 off-ramp to eastbound Wilshire Boulevard, to northbound Veteran Avenue to eastbound Sunset Boulevard
