A man accused of marking building walls on a Simi Valley elementary school campus with swastikas and other graffiti was arrested one day after the vandalism led to an early dismissal at the school.
Stephen Lazarus, 23, was arrested on suspicion of terrorist threats and vandalism, according to police. Bail was set at $50,000.
Lazarus' arrest came after Justin Elementary School closed early Monday because of what authorities described as graffiti on the campus that included a "threatening" message. Classes were dismissed at noon, and parents were notified via phone calls and e-mails.
After-school programs also were canceled.
Police received the report of "extensive graffiti vandalism" at about 7 a.m. Investigators determined that Lazarus acted alone and did not "have the means to carry out any credible threat," Simi Valley police said in a statement.
