A sixth-grade student in Costa Mesa who allegedly brought a marijuana-laced brownie to school that sickened a total of seven children was arrested last week, according to police.

The 12-year-old boy, whose identity was not released, was arrested Wednesday, March 13 on suspicion of misdemeanor possession of marijuana on campus. He allegedly had a "small container" of marijuana in his backpack, which was discovered by school staff, according to police.

The boy was later released to a parent, according to police.

On March 12, the child allegedly brought the pot brownie to Pomona Elementary School, located at 2051 Pomona Ave. in Costa Mesa.

The suspect, five other boys and a girl took bites of the brownie in the school's library and on the playground. The students -- between the ages of 10 and 12 -- reported dizziness and nausea, according to fire officials.

They were hospitalized and later released, according to police.
