Los Angeles police on Wednesday released two sketches of a man who shot and killed a driver in what they described as a road rage incident in Arleta.

The shooting took place last Saturday just after 3 p.m. when two cars were passing under the 5 Freeway on Branford Street (map), detectives said. A driver described as a Latino man in a gray Dodge Challenger fired a single shot into a red Kia.

The driver of the Kia, identified as 22-year-old Richard Eduardo Ruiz of North Hollywood, was struck by the gunfire. He died hours later at a hospital.

Two passengers in the Kia were not hurt. They provided detectives with descriptions of the shooter.

Detectives said they have received several tips on the Challenger, which is an R/T model with custom rims, but need the public's help tracking down the shooter, who was described as a man in his early 20s with short-cropped hair and green eyes.

The shooter's vehicle may be similar to the Challenger R/T 2013 model, shown below at right.

Anyone with information on the case was asked to call the Los Angeles Police Detective Ryan Verna at (818) 838-9976.
