Many Chase Bank customers logged into their bank accounts Monday evening to find a horrifying figure: $0.
The major bank reported via Twitter that the "internal issue" causing customers to see zeroed-out accounts online and on the bank’s mobile app had been fixed as of 7:30 p.m. PT, about three hours after the bank acknowledged the problem.
"We're back to business as usual on Chase.com & Mobile. Apologies again for the trouble & thank you for your patience," a tweet from @ChaseSupport read.
A Chase Bank spokesperson told CNET that Monday's problem was an internal one, and did not suspect a security breach caused the issue.
The glitch prompted banking customers to vent their frustrations -- and fears -- on Twitter, with many of them posting screenshots of their zeroed-out accounts.
On Tuesday, March 12, Chase Bank’s website was inaccessible for about 90 minutes. Company officials said the outage was caused by a denial-of-service attack, in which attackers bombard a website with traffic that overloads servers, causing slow loading or a total shutdown.
