A suspected drunken motorist hit a pedestrian and a bicyclist before crashing after hitting another car that followed him when he drove away, police said.

The chain of events occurred within minutes of each other early Saturday in Monrovia, the CHP said.

It ended after the suspect, identified as Anthony Pina, 19, of Glendora, flipped his car after crashing into a freeway center divider and tried to run from police.

He was booked into jail on suspicion of drunken driving and felony hit and run, said California Highway Patrol Officer Rodrigo Jimenez, a department spokesman.

The drama began before 6 a.m. Saturday, when police said Pina struck a 46-year-old El Monte man. The pedestrian suffered minor injuries with cuts to the back of the head and face, Jimenez said.

Minutes later, Pina allegedly hit a 63-year-old bicyclist from Duarte after spinning out in his car -- doing doughnuts -- around the man, who was hospitalized in critical condition, officials said.

The suspect then allegedly hit a Mini Cooper on the 210 Freeway that was following him, police said. The occupants, who saw the suspect hit the bicyclist, were not hurt, police said.
