6 Firefighters Injured in Moreno Valley Blaze

A blaze at a storage complex in Moreno Valley grew to a four-alarm fire Tuesday morning, leaving six firefighter with minor injuries.

The structure fire was first reported at about 9:45 a.m. in the 6300 block of Perris Boulevard (map) after smoke was showing from a storage unit. The blaze was contained by 1:30 p.m.

Aerial video showed smoke coming from at least five blackened storage units.

At 10:40 a.m. and then at 11:15 a.m., fire officials on scene called for more resources, according to the Riverside County Fire Department. By 11:40 a.m., the incident had been upgraded to a four-alarm fire.

Six firefighter were transported to a local hospital, fire officials said.

About 95 firefighters with 20 engine companies were on scene. Some could be seen getting shade and water under pop-up tents.

Belongings from the damaged storage units were strewn on the ground, aerial video showed.

The National Weather Service had forecast a high temperature of 98 degrees for Tuesday, the tail end of a punishing heat wave in the southwestern United States.
