A fire tore through a single-story commercial building in Sun Valley on Monday afternoon, taking 161 firefighters two hours to extinguish, authorities said.

The fire began about 5:06 p.m. and firefighters reported heavy flames coming from the building at 9413 block of Telfair Avenue (map), according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey.

No injuries have been reported, he said.

The building contained cardboard and chemicals, Humphrey reported, but it was unclear what kind of chemicals were inside.

A neighborhood was across the street from the fire, but no evacuations were ordered.

Aerial footage show towering flames and a massive plume of thick, black smoke erupting from the building.
