A Fullerton police officer was shot multiple times during a traffic stop early Sunday morning and is hospitalized, said officials.
"A seven-year veteran officer made a car stop at Woods and Knepp Avenues at 12:13 a.m.," said Sgt. Jeff Stuart, Fullerton police Public Information Officer.
"The driver produced a handgun and fired at the officer striking him multiple times," said Sgt. Stuart. "The officer was able to return fire, but its unknown if anyone in the vehicle was struck."
The injured officer was taken to a local hospital where he's expected to survive, Sgt. Stuart said.
Officers found the suspected gunman's car, described as a dark-colored Pontiac 4-door, a short time later, but the two male suspects -- the driver and a passenger -- remain at large.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Fullerton Police Department at (714) 738-6800.
