A gunman opened fire near Santa Monica College Friday afternoon, after what authorities believe was a violent crime spree including a house fire and carjacking.
Two bodies were found at in a burned-out home about a mile away from the campus Friday morning.
A neighbor told NBC4 she saw a man wearing tactical gear waving on cars with what appeared to be a rifle near Kansas and Yorkshire avenues. He then opened fire on a female driver before forcing another motorist to drive him to Santa Monica College.
About noon, witness reported seeing a “fully armed” man firing a weapon at vehicles passing by Pearl and 17th streets, near the college’s Corsair Stadium.
A total of six victims were taken to the hospital. One of them died after suffering a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
Police could not immediately confirm what happened to the shooter.
