Quick-thinking straphangers rescued a man from the subway tracks in Manhattan after he was mugged by an iPhone thief Saturday night, police say.
The victim was on his phone on the E train platform at 51st Street and Lexington Avenue when a man approached him to steal the iPhone, police said. A struggle ensued and the victim wound up on the tracks.
Bystanders quickly swooped in to help pick up the victim before the next train arrived. The victim was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Police are still searching for the thief.
Early Saturday morning, a man was killed when he went to pick up an iPhone he dropped onto the subway tracks at the 241st Street station in the Bronx; he was electrocuted by third rail and hit by an oncoming train, police said.
