A fast-growing brush fire is burning in Angeles National Forest near homes and power lines Thursday afternoon, according to U.S. Forest Service officials.
The fire near San Francisquito Canyon and Clearwater Canyon (map) was reported about 3:30 p.m. and had grown to consume between 20 and 30 acres within an hour.
It is burning uphill in steep, mostly brush-covered terrain.
Aerial video of the fire showed flames moving toward power lines, and a large water distribution facility appeared to be nearby. There are structures in the vicinity of the fire, according to a Forest Service spokeswoman.
Temperatures in the area climbed into the high-80s Wednesday afternoon and humidity is about 31 percent. Wind gusts could reach up to 26 mph near the fire, according to the National Weather Service.
At least 100 personnel from the U.S. Forest Service and Los Angeles County Fire Department are battling the fire.
