Simi Valley residents on Sunday mourned a 12-year-old boy who was struck and killed by a semi-truck a night earlier.
Several people left flowers near the crash site at the intersection of Tapo and Alamo streets.
"I don't know this boy's family (but) I wish I did so I could tell them in person how sorry I am," one woman told NBC4.
"I'm a mom myself and it really bothers me," another mourner said. "I'm horrified by it."
About 7:45 p.m. on Saturday, a 12-year-old boy and an 8-year-old boy were riding bikes near the intersection when a turning Fresh & Easy semi-truck struck and killed the older boy.
The younger boy, believed to be a friend, was not injured. The truck driver cooperated with police and was not suspected to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
A witness said she saw the man sitting on the curb and holding his head in his hands after the crash.
Police were investigating the cause of the collision.
