A suspected car thief was taken into custody after leading police on a dramatic high-speed pursuit that ended in downtown Los Angeles on Saturday night.
The driver maneuvered into oncoming traffic, blew through stop signs, struck several vehicles and narrowly missed hitting police cruisers as he attempted to evade Los Angeles Police Department officers for more than 30 minutes.
The driver jumped out of the moving Honda Civic on 9th Street just west of Hill Street and ran down an alley. He was taken into custody when a police cruiser cut him off on the other end.
The pursuit began when officers pulled the car over. The driver got out of the car with his hands up, but returned to the vehicle and took off, police said.
No one was hurt during the incident, police said.
The car had an anti-theft device installed. Officers hoped to return it to its owner.
