Magnitude-3.5 Quake Strikes Near Site of Anza Temblor

An earthquake with preliminary magnitude 3.5 rattled an already shaken region of Riverside County Tuesday night, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The temblor hit at 9:21 p.m. about 12 miles east-southeast of Anza. A magnitude-4.7 quake struck along the same fault line on Monday, and was followed by dozens of smaller aftershocks.

Californians in Menifee and Hemet -- 68 and 59 miles away from the epicenter respectively -- reported feeling the quake, according to USGS' "Did You Feel It?" website.

The temblor struck near Palm Desert, La Quinta and Rancho Mirage -- 16, 14 and 16 miles away from the epicenter respectively.

There were no initial reports on damage or injury .

A relatively small quake in a geologically active region of the country, Tuesday night's quake once again shook the earth beneath residents in Riverside County.

It was not immediately known if the nighttime temblor was an aftershock of the previous day's quake.

Monday's 4.7 was the most powerful quake to hit the region in three years, with people in Burbank reporting they felt the quake nearly 130 miles northwest of the epicenter.
