A new transition road from the northbound 170 Freeway to the northbound 5 Freeway opened Wednesday morning, part of a four-year construction project that began in 2010 in the San Fernando Valley.
Traffic Page: Maps, Delays
The 2,400-foot long connector allows northbound traffic from the 170 Freeway to merge with three outside lanes of traffic on the northbound 5 Freeway. The opening was delayed by one day because of Tuesday's rain.
The project, scheduled for completion in mid-2014, includes a carpool lane on both sides of the 5 Freeway between the 170 Freeway and the 118 Freeway. The project calls for a direct carpool lane connector, meaning drivers in the carpool lane will not have to exit the lane to change freeways.
