Limo Fire Survivor Describes Ordeal

One of the survivors of this weekend's tragic limousine five on the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge is telling a heartbreaking story of loss.

Neila Arrellano, 36, said she lost five of her friends Saturday night after they were trapped by flames inside a stretch limousine. 

The group part of a bridal party on their way to a Foster City hotel. The bride is among those who died. 

Five of the nine women on board were unable to escape from the limo and died when flames and smoke spread through the rear of the passenger compartment.

Only four passengers were able to get out alive.  Three remained in the hospital Monday night suffering from smoke inhalation and burns.

The only surviving passenger who is out of the hospital Monday talked to NBC News.

 Neilla Arrellano is a nurse who works at the Fruitvale Health Center in Oakland. She said they first noticed smoke at the back of the vehicle. She said smoke came out from between the legs of a woman sitting on the back seat.

She said they tried to get the driver's attention to tell him something was wrong. 

"Stop the car, stop the car," she recalled telling the driver. "I told you, there is smoke."

The driver, Orville Brown, told NBC Bay Area at first he thought the women were asking him to pull over so that they could get out of the car to smoke a cigarette, but he quickly learned they were in trouble. 

He said by the time he was able to pull over, the back of the limo was fully engulfed in flames. 

Arrellano said she got out by sliding her body through the partician in the front of the limo. She was the first one who got out safely.

She said she thought all of the women tried to get to the front of the vehicle because the flames were in the back. She wasn't sure if any of them tried to get out either of the back doors.
