A massive, growing wildfire in Ventura County has forced the closure of schools in the area of the Springs Fire, according to an announcement from the Ventura County Sheriff's Department.
Cypress Elementary and Sycamore Canyon schools will be closed on Friday while firefighters continue to battle the Springs Fire, which had grown to scorch more than 8,000 acres and was 10 percent contained by Thursday evening.
Classes at California State University Channel Islands are cancelled for Thursday night and Friday.
