A magnitude-4.7 earthquake rumbled on Monday near the Riverside County community of Anza and people reported feeling the temblor up to 100 miles away.

The quake struck at 9:56 a.m. about 13 miles east-southeast of Anza, according to the United States Geological Survey.

At least one smaller quake -- or foreshock -- registered under 3.0. The largest quake was followed by a series of smaller aftershocks that also registered under magnitude 3.0, according to the USGS.

The quake was initially reported at 5.2 magnitude and then downgraded.

The temblor occurred on the San Jacinto fault, one of the more active faults in Southern California, according to the USGS.

There were no initial reports of damage in Riverside County, said Jodi Hagemann of the Riverside County Fire Department.

People reported feeling the quake as far away as Burbank, nearly 130 miles northwest of the epicenter in Anza.

One person in Palm Desert reported a strong quake that flung cupboards open and broke dishes. Dogs were terrified. Another person in Beaumont reported the quake knocked a picture frame off a dresser.

NBC4 Facebook user Terry Raposa said she felt the quake in Lake Elsinore.

"Slam and then felt sea sick! LOL!," she wrote.

Donina Ifurung felt the quake in Glendale.

"I am on the 7th Floor and the building was swaying back and forth," said Ifurung, a communications assistant for DineEquity, Inc.

Users on Twitter reacted to the quake.

"At least I won't be late for class!," she wrote.
