The city of Los Angeles is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the driver who struck and killed a bicyclist in Valley Glen in March.
The City Council approved the reward at its Tuesday meeting.
About 6:30 p.m. on March 24, David Alexander Granados, 18, was riding his bicycle on Bellaire Avenue near Oxnard Street. A car ran a red light on Oxnard and struck Granados. The driver did not stop to render aid, according to a statement from City Councilman Paul Krekorian.
Granados died at a hospital the next day. Family members said the crash happened days after Granados' 18th birthday.
Authorities were looking for the driver of what appears to be a grey or silver Mercedes Benz M-class SUV, model year 2000 to 2004. The driver -- caught on surveillance video, embedded below -- may be an older male, authorities said. A passenger is believed to have been in the SUV.
