A motorcyclist was killed after being hit by flying debris following a crash on the northbound 15 Freeway in the Lake Elsinore area that left traffic backed up for miles on Monday morning.
The crash occurred at about 8:20 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
A truck (pictured below) heading southbound on the freeway veered into the grassy center divider and struck a concrete K-rail, then flew into northbound lanes, where the truck hit a Mercedes Benz sedan.
Concrete debris from the K-rail flew into the air and hit a female motorcyclist heading northbound -- and she was thrown from her bike and killed, the CHP said. The motorcycle kept moving and crashed 1,000 yards from the scene of the truck-sedan collision.
Traffic was backed up for four miles south of Indian Truck Trail in the area between Corona and Lake Elsinore (map), but was cleared by noon.
Aerial video showed a white Mercedes sedan that had been placed on a tow-truck bed appeared to have the front right end fully destroyed. And a white truck on the median was also seriously damaged. Debris littered the roadway.
The drivers of the truck and sedan (pictured below) were not seriously injured.
