A limousine struck and killed a woman in her 20s Saturday night as she crossed Pacific Coast Highway after leaving Moonshadows restaurant in Malibu, police said.

Pacific Coast Highway was shut down for several hours in both directions as police investigated the crash. The road was reopened at 2 a.m. Sunday.

The woman, whose name was not being released to the public, left Moonshadows restaurant with a man at 8:40 p.m. Both crossed the highway to get to their parked car when the woman was hit by a limo driver who was leaving the same restaurant.

The driver said he had to accelerate quickly in order to merge into westbound traffic and did not see the couple in the center of the highway, said Sgt. James Braden of the Malibu/Los Hills police station.

The man crossing with her, whose identity was also withheld, was not injured.

No arrests were made and the driver was not intoxicated, Braden said, adding it was an unfortunate accident.
